Thanksgiving Cactus plant propagate by stem cutting. To take the cutting, simply twist off a piece of stem about three to four segments long. The stems are made up of joined rectangular segments. Avoid propagating during the winter once the Thanksgiving cactus has gone into dormancy.

  • Use a sterilized scissors take stem cutting.
  • Set the cutting in dry location for 24 hours to allow the cut ends to callous over.
  • Fill the potting container by
    a small plastic pot with pre-moistened potting soil.
  • Cut the 3 to 5 stem segment and place them in a cool and dry place for 2 to 4 days until the end callouses to protect the end from rotting.
  • Produce proper light, water, soil, temperature-humidity levels and grow your plant healthy.

Pruning also helps to encourage bushier growth and can be used for propagation.You can remove up to one-third of the plant every year to control its size and shape.They can grow quickly and take over your space if you don’t regularly prune them back.Whenever you see that the leaves are not healthy, use your sanitized scissors or shears to cut off the damaged leaves.

Pinch back stems in early June to promote branching which will encourage more flowers come Autumn.Trimming the stems just one to two segments from the end will help the plant fill out. You can trim plants by up to one-third each year.
