Basil Plant Care
Here, I will share my own experience how to grow and care your basil plant.
Light
Basil plant needs a sunny location that receives at least six to eight hours of bright light per day.If you’re growing indoors, place the planter in a south or west-facing window, North and east-facing windows. The key to successfully growing basil indoors is light. As with many other herbs, basil is a true sun-lover—place it near a sunny, south-facing window where it gets six to eight hours of bright light every day, and it will thrive. Alternatively, basil does exceptionally well under grow lights. Basil is easy to grow.
Water

Grow Basil Indoors in Water, another way that you can multiply your basil plants indoors is by rooting them in water. To do this, take your basil plant and cut its stems to 3 to 4 inches long and strip off any leaves under water. Fill a glass with water and place stems in the glass. It likes to stay moist and requires approximately 1 inch of water every week. Water deeply at least once a week to keep roots growing deep and the soil moist. Basil growing in containers will need more frequent watering. Your goal when growing basil in a container is to keep the soil from drying out.
Soil
These plants thrive in rich soil with lots of organic matter, such as compost, and need a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. If you’re not sure about the pH in your garden, use a soil tester to measure it. If your results indicate that you need amendments, work them into the soil before planting. It prefers fertile, well-drained loamy soils rich in organic matter. You want the soil to be damp, not drenched. Although basil loves warm weather, a hot midday sun can be rather harsh.
Temperature & humidity
Basil thrives in warm temperatures and full morning sun. If you live in an area with scorching midday sun, try to give your basil light shade during the hottest time of day.Sweet Basil thrives at 70°F to 80°F, but can grow between 52°F and 84°F. Below 52°F or above 85°F risks growth halt, damage, or bolting. Prevent stress with shade, mulching, and acclimatizing to temperature changes. Alternatively, it grows very well at warm temperatures and our research shows leaf unfolding of sweet basil increaseses with air temperature up to 84 °F.
Basil loves warm weather, lots of sun and plenty of moisture. It prefers nutrient-rich and well-drained soils. Before planting, amend the soil with compost and fertilizer and plant after the last frost. High humidity is a key factor in disease and mold development. It may cause outbreaks of some of the most common basil diseases, such as gray mold or basil downy mildew. For basil cultivation, the ideal relative humidity range is around 70-85%.
Fertilizer
Organic fertilizers are the secret sauce to a thriving basil plant. Compost soil, coffee grounds, stale beer, tea, or mineral water are all excellent choices. These natural fertilizers provide essential nutrients for your basil, promoting healthy growth and blooming. But remember, moderation is key.Feed basil plants regularly with Miracle-Gro Performance Organics Edibles Plant Nutrition one month after planting. Basil Plant Pruning
If you grow basil then the goal is for the plant to produce many leaves , to make this happen learn how to prune basil is required. About every four weeks, prune basil back to just above the bottom two sets of leaves.Once your basil flowers, it will stop sprouting leaves. Prune your basil regularly and pinch off flower buds to prevent flowering and encourage the growth of new branches and new leaves. Each time you cut back a stem, two new stems will branch out from that cut, so consistent trimming is important to help the plant reach its most productive form.
