Button fern is the charming addition of your indoor space. It is a compact plant for its compact size and low maintenance. This plant is native to regions with high humidity, such as tropical and subtropical areas.

In this article I share how I have taken care of my button fern.Plant lovers like me can grow indoor plants of their choice in very short time and space.

Detailed care of Button fern

This article will help you with all the essentials you need to grow your plant. Adequate amounts of water, light, and soil should be obtained for the plant to grow. The problems and benefits of the plant have also been shared in this article.

Light

Button fern prefers medium to bright indirect light. Place them near a window with filtered light but avoid direct sun exposure, it can scorch their delicate leaves. Avoid southern exposure where ferns will be subjected to harsh solar rays. This plant can also tolerate lower light conditions.

Water your button fern at least once a week to ensure that the soil consistently moist. During the winter, allow for a longer interval of 7-10 days. Water when the top of the soil is dry. If your plant gets too much water then it can make start to rot. Fern roots are generally thin and wiry in texture and grow along the stem. They absorb water and nutrients and help secure the fern.

Soil

Your button ferns need peat-based potting mix to which perlite has been added to improve drainage. The potting mix is contain with one part peat moss or coconut coir, one part perlite, and one part vermiculite.When the soil get too much water, the plant’s roots can rot or fungal diseases can develop on the leaves.

Temperature & humidity

Your button ferns prefers warm temperatures, maintain a consistent temperature between 60-70 degree Fahrenheit.

The ideal humidity levels 40-50%, it likes high humidity so water once a week. Below of 35% humidity is about as low a level as your plant can tolerate. The sign of caused by low humidity include browning and drying of the tips of the leaves. You can add a humidifier to more moisture of the air around your plant.

before coming fertilizer I just shared a experience

For three months I have not given any kind of fertilizer to my fern plant. I’m just using it which has resulted in that.

see, If you want to keep your plant green and beautiful, use magnesium and sulfur. All this you will get from Epsom Salt.

How to use Epsom Salt In Button Fern

  1. you can directly mix in soil
  2. or, you can add one spoon of epsom salt in 1 liter water

Apply gap of every 20 days.

Now come to fertilizer: Nitrate nitrogen, urea nitrogen, phosphate, soluble potash all are essential for your Button Fern.

I used this types of stick fertilizer for my all types of fern. All the nutrients discussed above are in this stick.

Useing is very simple : Just push each spike into the soil around the Button Fern, halfway between the plant stem and the edge of the pot, until the spike is just below the surface. Water After inserting spikes.

If your any plant is not producing flowers, fertiliser might be essential nutrients. Feed your plant with a liquid fertiliser about once every 2 weeks during the growing season. In late winter or early spring, fertilizers should not be given because the leaves may drop at that time.Too much nitrogen can cause tip burn on the roots and leaves if the plant becomes dry.

Button fern propagation

You can easily propagate button fern in the Spring when it starts active growth. It easily propagate by dividing a plant’s rhizomes.The cutting should be placed in indirect light and kept warm. A dead area of the plant is good indication that the plant is ready for divided.The propagating part should be separated from the parent plant very carefully.The time of separation should be observed so that both parts have leaves and rhizomes.

If it is difficult to separate by hand, you can use a clean knife. Keep your separate part in a warm place with medium indirect light. If you get into good routine, the button fern makes a wonderful indoor plant. Place the newly propagated button ferns in a location with indirect light and maintain regular watering to encourage root establishment.

Pruning of Button Fern

Pruning is an essential part of maintaining the health and appearance of button ferns. Trimming the damage parts of the plant daily helps the plant to grow.This gives the plant a specific shape.Trimming these parts ensures that the plant can healthy growth and it helps prevent the spread of any disease or pests.If you prune into summer then you may risk removing future flowers.

Using a clean and sharp knife for carefully cut the unhealthy fronds at the base where they meet the main stem. Removing dead or yellow leaves, the plant’s appearance but also prevents the spread of disease. It can also be produce aesthetic features, such as shaping the plant.
